Vehicle Emissions Status Explained | Roller Auction Help Center

Vehicle listings at Roller Auction include an emissions status to help buyers understand registration eligibility and any requirements after purchase. Below is a breakdown of each status and what it means for you.

Passed

A Passed vehicle has already completed emissions testing successfully.

What this means:

• You will receive a passed emissions test with the title
• A 60-day temporary tag will be provided with proof of current insurance
• The vehicle is ready for registration (if no other issues apply)

Failed

A Failed vehicle did not pass emissions testing.

What this means:

• Buyer must either:
• reside outside the Colorado emissions testing area, or
• be a licensed vehicle dealer
No temporary tag will be provided
• The vehicle cannot be registered in emissions-required areas until it passes testing

Guaranteed

A Guaranteed vehicle has not yet passed emissions but includes a limited guarantee.

What this means:

• You have 3 days from the auction date to complete an emissions test
• If the vehicle fails, you may return it for a refund of the purchase price only
• A 60-day temporary tag will be provided with proof of current insurance

Incomplete

An Incomplete status means the emissions test could not be completed.

What this means:

• The vehicle’s system was not ready for testing (OBD readiness monitors not set)
• Buyer must complete any necessary steps and obtain a passed emissions test if required for registration
Anyone may purchase this vehicle
• A 60-day temporary tag will be provided with proof of current insurance

Tow Away

A Tow Away vehicle must be removed by towing.

What this means:

• The vehicle must be towed off the lot per Colorado Department of Revenue requirements
• You must provide:
• a towing service invoice, or
• a photo of the vehicle being towed (verified by Roller staff)
• Keys and title will be released after towing is confirmed
No temporary tag will be provided

Important Reminder

Emissions status directly impacts:

• your ability to register the vehicle
• whether you can drive it immediately
• whether a temporary tag will be issued

Always review the emissions status carefully before placing a bid.
