Why Do Auctions Keep Extending

This explains the reason why the lot stays open and does not close.

If you notice the auction timer resetting near closing time, this is normal and part of how online auctions work.

Roller Auction uses extended bidding to make sure every bidder has a fair opportunity to place a bid.

How Extended Bidding Works

When a lot is closing:

If a bid is placed during the final minute, the timer resets back to one minute.

This allows other bidders time to respond instead of losing the item to a last-second bid.

The auction will continue to extend until one full minute passes with no new bids.

Why Auctions Use Extended Bidding

Extended bidding prevents what is known as “bid sniping,” where someone places a bid in the final seconds so others cannot respond.

By resetting the timer, all bidders have a fair opportunity to compete for the item.

Why Multiple Extensions Can Happen

Near the end of an auction, several bidders may compete for the same item.

Each new bid placed during the final minute resets the timer again.

Because of this, lots may extend multiple times before finally closing.

How Grouped Lots Affect Auction Closing

Some auctions contain grouped lots.

When lots are grouped together, bidding on any lot within the group will extend all lots in that group.

The group will close once one full minute passes with no bids on any lot within the group.

This system gives bidders a fair chance to compete for all items within the group.

Helpful Tips

• Stay on the auction page during the final minutes if you want to continue bidding.
• If you know the maximum you are willing to pay, consider using Max Bid so the system can automatically bid for you.
• Be aware that grouped lots may extend together if bidding occurs on any lot in the group.
